Hagley Hall Country Pursuits Days

Clay Pigeon Shooting

Clay shooting is still one of the most popular corporate activities. The professional instructors will ensure all guests are soon "Breaking Clays". Top quality Miroku shotguns are used, with specially loaded light recoil cartridges. A variety of targets can be chosen i.e. Walked up Grouse, Driven Pheasant, Crossing Pigeon, Springing Teal.

Hunting Longbow Archery

Hunting Archery is the modern simulation of the traditional use of the longbow - an English tradition going back to medieval times. Guests are taught, on a one-to-one basis, and "user friendly" bows are provided to accommodate all sizes.

Smallbore .22 Rifles

The lightweight .22 rimfire sporting rifles used in this activity are true hunting rifles (not airguns) and are universally used in the field when they are not being used for sporting target purposes. The 5 shot magazines and bolt action loading process are smooth and user friendly, giving the inexperienced shooter great confidence. Equally, the light round gives no kick whatsoever and shooting is done from the comfort of specially designed tables - making this activity especially good for the ladies who usually excel. The rifles are fitted with powerful telescopic scopes to aid target identification and part of the tuition is the introduction to the correct use of "scopes as an aid to shooting". Guests are given a number of shots to allow them to "zero" the rifle to their eye before shooting their competition score.

Target Crossbow

The modern crossbow is light but extremely powerful. With pinpiont accuracy, a precision trigger and exceptional balance, guests will soon be hitting their mark on the targets.

Target Pistol Shooting

In this discipline, modern air power pistols are used which are pre-charged to 200bar. All the guest has to do is lightly cock the pistol using the bolt and gently squeeze the trigger to loose the .22 pellet at the target. Whatever present sensibilities, this activity always generates heated competition between the participants on adjacent ranges.

Target Fly Fishing Casting

Enjoy the gentle art of fly casting. Our experienced instructors will teach you how to cast your fly using modern carbon fibre rods.

Duck/Geese Herding

The sheepdogs are used for both working on the farm and competing at Trials. They work to both whistle and spoken commands and illustrate, in a very special way, the communication between Animal and Man. Each team member will be given a whistle and shown basic commands to work the dog. The task is then to herd the ducks/geese through, and over, a number of obstacles ending up in an enclosed pen.

Hands-On Falconry

Our team of falconers have developed their expertise over a considerable period of time. This presentation is full and varied with the guests having the chance to handle hawks, falcons and owls, demonstrating basic training techniques through to full free flying displays.
